I opened a group a month or two ago - it has been hard work getting 50 people to join.

I post new tasks etc everyday - but members do not join in.

Any tips on how to get them showing an interest & how to promote group?

  1. Yes.

    Have a point of view.

  2. I manage one of the largest groups on YahooGroups.  And the first few years are the hardest and most frustrating.  People will join AND leave every day.  The most successful groups are the ones where the owner takes a deep interest in the group dynamic.  Roughly around 500 members is where what I call "critical mass" is achieved.  Until that point, you will have to be the most active person in the group if you want the group to be successful.

Getting 500 people is best done by letting them wander in on their own.  But that takes time (usually several _years_).  But the best things in the world take a lot of time, care, and nurturing.  After a while, you will notice certain members who take a keen interest in the group (top posters) and share similar interests as you do.  Those people are the people you want to hook in and keep.  The best way to do that is give them moderator status after 3,000 or so members join.  It'll also lighten your load a bit.

However, you really can't take a vacation away from your group.  People notice a difference in the group dynamic when the owner takes a leave of absence.

  3. make it a game who eer gets the most  people ina  week to join  gets a prize of some thing  try making a myspace page  and   promating it from there it  would work to

  4. It depends what's the group is all about.  Is there an interest for your subject in the general public?  Can the subject evolve in time and is not just passing event?

  5. yesssss
