There are a primary group of people who are usually thought of when the term "hero" is brought up. They are fire fighters, military, medics and police officers. My question is, why aren't lifeguards often brought up in the discussion when heroes are mentioned? Lifeguards will risk their life daily to protect people, including small children, from drowning in potentially dangerous waters. Lifeguards are also trained medics, and may rescue close to 100 people a year, if not more, depending where they work.

In your opinion, why aren't lifeguards included with fire fighters and military?

  1. Baywatch.  Hasselhof ruined it for everyone.

Seriously, though, unless you live near the beach, you probably don't have much contact with lifeguards.  The other professions you mention can be found throughout the country.

  2. Because there life is never in danger when saving people.

When doing there duty, whether the police, firefighters or military, they have all >risked there lives< to preserve, protect or save lives.
