Groupe Edmond de Rothschild drops down, Team TILT finishes debut at 9th place: Extreme Sailing Act 8
France’s Groupe Edmond de Rothschild started very well in the eighth and penultimate act of 2011 Extreme Sailing Series, as for the first two days of racing, they remained in the top three podiums. However, after that the French team could not hold on to
the top mark and slipped down to middle positions at number five at the end of the 2011 Extreme Sailing Series Act 8 at port of Almeria.
On the other hand, debutants from Switzerland, Team TILT, have finished their first Extreme run at ninth place after 32 races. The purpose of Swiss team skipper, Alex Schneiter, and the crew was to gain experience out of the tournament as it was their first
attempt in the Extreme circuit.
Final standings of 2011 Extreme Sailing Series Act 8 at the port of Almeria:
1. Alinghi (SUI), Tanguy Cariou, Yann Guichard, Nils Frei, Yves Detrey = 254 points
2. Luna Rossa (ITA), Max Sirena, Paul Campbell-James, Alister Richardson, Manuel Modena = 233 points
3. Oman Air (OMA), Ben Ainslie, Kinley Fowler, David Carr, Nasser Al Mashari = 232 points
4. Team GAC Pindar (GBR), Ian Williams, Mischa Heemrskerk, Andrew Walsh, Brad Webb = 218 points

Before setting sail in port of Almeria waters, the French team was on top of the circuit standings but now their lower finish has nudged them down at number two place with 68 points behind Luna Rossa, who clinched the top spot with just one point difference
at 69 points. The French team still has the chance to make it up to the peak podium spot, as they have one more event left in the season.
Meanwhile, Great Britain’s Team GAC Pindar made a strong comeback from down the standings and hit the fourth spot under the leader ship of former Olympic gold medallist, Ian Williams. Leigh McMillan’s The Wave Muscat dropped to a number seven finish due
to some unconvincing results after the first two days of racing.
