Groupie Doll all set for the Breeders’ Cup
Co-owner, co-breeder and trained of Groupie Doll, Buff Bradley has enjoyed immense success with the 4-year-old filly, who has downed the last four graded stakes races in a row by a combined 20 ½ lengths, and anyone who has watched in her last four races
would admit to the fact that she did it quiet easily.
The part owner breeder had a little scare after winning the Grade 2 Thoroughbred Club of America at Keeneland on 6 October, 2012, when under jockey Rajiv Maragh, the Bowman’s Band filly took the race by the scuff of the neck and downed the 6 furlong sprint
in 1 minute and 9.21 seconds, while Strike the Moon and Honey Chile finished second and third, respectively.
“They called me away from the champagne reception after the race from the test barn," Bradley said. "I got there, and she was not even blowing hard. It was like she didn’t do anything. She was just telling me, ‘Let’s go home.’ "
Bradley must have skipped a heart beat after being called out the way he was regarding his excellent filly, but home she went back at Churchill Downs, and Bradley reported that Groupie Doll ate well last night and grazed in the morning.
Out of Silvery Deputy’s mare Deputy Doll, Groupie Doll becoming a millionaire after winning the Thoroughbred Club of America, could increase her bankroll after earning an automatic berth in the Grade 1, $1 million Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint to be
run on 3 November, 2012, at Santa Anita Park.
Groupie Doll, who has raced in seven races this season, started the year with an allowance optional claimer over a mile at Gulfstream Park and started off with a second place finish.
The filly then turned in back-to-back third place finished in the Grade 3 Sabin Stakes and then in the Grade 2 Inside Information Stakes at Gulfstream Park.
She registered her first win of the season at Keeneland, when she defeated She’s Cheeky to take the Grade 1 Madison Stakes, and from then on never looked back and landed the Grade 1 Humana Distaff, Grade 2 Presque Isle Master, and most recently the Grade
2 Thoroughbred Club of America.
