Groupie Doll to take a break after a hectic first part of the season
Brass Hat, for years have been the torch bearer for William Bradley’s farm, but now in a timely fashion 4-year-old filly, Groupie Doll, has taken that responsibility, and she is living up to it.
On the Kentucky Derby undercard at Churchill Downs on 5 May, 2012, Groupie Doll’s performance was the highlight of the day after I’ll Have Another took the feature in amazing fashion.
In the Grade 1 Humana Distaff, Groupie Doll was absolutely awesome, and with her scintillating run in the race, she showed how far she is above the class and the 4-year-old filly crop.
Make no mistake there are some really good fillies, but Bowman’s Band filly is on a good run, she makes every stride count, and make the rest of the competition look like leading ponies.
The filly is coming to her own, after being fully seasoned, she is showing her connections how good she can be in the future, but right now there is a whole season in front of her, and she has already run five times already with two grade 1 wins.
“It was so nice to win on Derby Day, especially the way she did it,” trainer Buff Bradley said Wednesday.
Nice is the right word, where your trained and owned filly wins a grade 1 race by a massive margin of 7 ¼ lengths and make it a one horse race.
Out of Silver Deputy mare Deputy Doll, Groupie Doll started the season with a second place finish in an allowance/optional claimer at a mile at Gulfstream Park, and staying there she finished third in the Grade 3 Sabin Stakes to Awesome Maria.
Her last start at the Gulfstream Park was in the Grade 2 Inside Information Stakes, where she got cutback in distance to seven furlongs, but she finished third to winner Musical Romance.
She made up for all those close misses with a win at Keeneland in the Grade 1 Madison Stakes over the venue’s All-Weather track.
Groupie Doll, said Bradley, “is getting just a little break. We’re going to work backward from the Breeders’ Cup” Filly and Mare Sprint in November at Santa Anita. “One option is the Ballerina and then maybe another race, but we really haven’t decided anything yet.”
