Groupie Doll will be too hot to handle in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint
William Bradley trained 4-year-old chestnut filly, Groupie Doll after a dismal start to the 2012 season, has been in emphatic form, and she is carrying strong winning momentum into the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint at Santa Anita Park on 3 November,
2012.
In the last 5 editions of the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, the favourties never scored the race, but no favourite of the race in the past 5 years was on a 4 race winning streak, and so the great rescue begins as Groupie Doll go as the 1 to 1 favourite
in the seven furlong sprint.
The filly with stunning raw ability will try to achieve that against nine other fillies and mares, and the heavy favourite will have to be watchful of the Brazilian bred Great Hot, Turbulent Descent, Switch, and the defending champion, Musical Romance.
“She’s been that special one,” Groupie Doll’s owner-trainer William “Buff” Bradley said. “She gives a lot of people hope that you don’t have to have the top bloodlines.”
The daughter of Bowman’s Band, out of Silver Deputy’s mare Deputy Doll, Groupie Doll was all over the place at the start of the season, starting with a second place finish in an Allowance Optional Claimer at Gulfstream Park, and over the same venue she finished
third in the Grade 3 Sabin Stakes.
Buff Bradley was persistent that she will win one in Gulfstream Park’s spring meet, but she proved him wrong by losing the Grade 2 Inside Information Stakes, when she finished third again.
Bradley added blinkers to Groupie Doll in the Grade 1 Vinery Madison at Keeneland, and that helped her to a massive 7 ¼ length victory.
Down at Churchill Downs, Groupie Doll was uncatchable as he she downed another grade 1 victory the Humana Distaff Stakes in May.
Next up was Presque Isle Downs, where she continued her winning streak, and extended it to three on the trot by easily managing the Grade 2 Presque Isle Downs Master Stakes, and then back to Keeneland to make 4 in as many starts, as she successfully won
her prep race, the Thoroughbred Club of America Stakes.
