Groupie Doll’s chances of competing in the Ballerina Stakes remain a distant dream
It seems that Groupie Doll will not be able to fulfill her dream of competing at Saratoga since, she has sustained an injury. Trainer William Bradley discovered that her hock was injured, but the injury is minor and a full recovery will be made in
due time.
The seven furlong Grade 1 Ballerina Stakes on 24th August, 2012, was on filly’s agenda, and chances are that she will recover, but the horseman doesn’t want to take any risks.
The four-year-old secured massive consecutive victories in her last two starts and, was on her way to complete her hat-trick.
In order to treat her injury, the daughter of Bowman's Band will receive cold water therapy among other treats, after which she will resume her training.
The older division runner bagged a victory in an incredible manner in the Grade 1 Madison Stakes at Keeneland on 12th April, 2012, where she was ridden by jockey, Rajiv Maragh.
She claimed victory over the Peter Eurton trained She's Cheeky, and successfully completed the seven furlong race in 1 minute and 23.76 seconds, while the third place was secured by Ariana D.
On 5th May, 2012, the filly who was foaled by Deputy Doll, dominated the seven furlong track in the Humana Distaff Stakes at Churchill Downs, where under Maragh again, she successfully broke through the wire and defeated, Musical
Romance.
This injury might have hindered the filly from competing in Saratoga but, her connections are optimistic about her chances in the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint, held at Santa Anita Park on 2nd November, 2012.
She has been supplemented into the Breeders’ Cup program at a cost of $50,000.
In order to qualify for the Breeders’ Cup, Groupie Doll will try her luck in the TCA Stakes at Keeneland on 6th October, 2012, and if she succeeds there, she will automatically earn an entry into the Breeders’ Cup event since
it is a “Win and You’re In” event.
Having won on this track before, it has given her trainers the confidence in her ability to win big races. Her future looks bright as the trainer commented:
“She won a Grade 1 on that track.”
“So I’m a little more comfortable getting her ready for that race, anyhow.”
