Hello: I love lemons and I would like to grow my own tree. I've read that Canadian weather is not suitable for planting lemons. Any tip for growing them indoors ?

  1. I have grown a lemon tree from seed. The tree grew over 5 ft. tall in a large pot that I kept in the lobby area where I work. It never produced fruit but the leaves were very fragrant.  Keep the tree in an area with lots of light.

  2. lemons can grow anywhere, but in the north will require a bit more attention. in the summe take it out. it will love the sun and will like the mild temps as long as you get in the 80s and you dont have frosts in the summer.

also lemons flower all year, but flower the most in the summer and winter so keep it in mind. also the flowers smelll really good so when inside and the cold has taken the outside over, inside your lemon tree will have fresh lemons about ripe from the summer flowers, and will be making new flowers so next summer you will have more lemons.

lemons take about 6 months to mature.

also lemons tend to drop fruit when young. some worry, but it is normal as long as some ars still on.

a large amount of dropped lemons may mean under watering or overwatering.

if indoors keep away from draft and heaters, but also give it as much sun as possible.

some of the easiest lemons to take care of and find are the meyer lemon and improved meyer lemon.

improved meyer lemons are very similar to meyer lemons, only this one is stronger against disease.

also both meyer lemons are dwarf and from seed will fruit at age 2 or 3. also grow to 6 feet and will reach 6 feet in only about 5-8 years from seed. in warm climates meyer lemons grow 10-20 feet, but you will still get alot of lemons even though yours will be smaller.

also to keep a nice shape prune in the spring and dont prune branches with alot of flowers or med to large sized fruit

  3. you could buy one from a tropical area. I know they grow well in california. Just keep them warm and give them sun. They also like high humidity. It can grow. South-western canada would be quite good for growing lemons, where North-eastern canada would be the worst. Hope this helps
