Question is, is it possible to grow morel mushrooms even after the main season is over, as long as i keep a good growing enviroment (wood chips, rotted wood, saw dust)?,,, i put some water off some morels my dads friend gave us, and also saved some stems, and threw them in the pile covered with a little stray and rotted wood from a storm we had recently, i have grown other mushrooms before, and was also wondering if you can colonize them in jars then put them in a outdoor patch that way the say you would do with a certin other varity . I tried putting some morel mushroom tisue and some water in a soil and compost mix, wetted and in jars, but the mycelium has not started growing yet, i know the basics, like keeping in the dark until the mycilium starts to colonize then i can put the cakes outside even if contamanated cause nature will take care out it, but are morels the same way? How long should it take a half pint jar to colonize at 80f in the dark , pitch black above fridge as normal

  1. Gracious, how times have changed.  In the '70s my friends would go to the cow pastures to get their mushrooms!

    Seriously though check out Wikipedia.

  2. yes, u can colonize them in jars, thats the best way. But if u want ALOT of mushrooms i say u case them(crumble up the mycelium and put them in a sandwitch between vermeculite and peat moss). And 80 degreez with half pint jar should reach 100 percent in bout 2 weeks. good luck

I always wanted to try morel mushrooms.
