Growing Out Pulled Manes?

Hi, i was just wondering, how long does it take to grow out a pulled mane (to about 3 inches) for a thoroughbred, so its at a natural length?

natural length being maybe a foot, more or less??

You know I really don't see why people pull their horses manes. It causes pain for your horse. At my barn, we use scissors. If you take a little section of mane between your fingers and snip it to the desired length, and go up the mane like that, you can trim the mane without causing pain.

Thanks Juliane, I almost crapped myself when I saw someone post that pulling a horses mane causes pain. I think I learned about pulling manes my first week of riding. Yeah it's no picnic for most horses, but it is not like our hair.

To the question, no exact time, but Cowboy Magic Detangler and Shine helps to strengthen the hair and aids in its growth since it is less likely to break. DO NOT use it if you plan to be braiding this mane, you will shoot yourself, very slippery.

I'm not sure at the exact rate, but I think horse's manes probably grow about 2 inches a month? So to get to a foot or so from 3 inches, it would probably take 4 months or so.

Horseofcourse: Pulling a mane doesn't cause pain.  Horses don't have nerve endings in their manes.  It is not at all like pulling on a a human's hair.  Geez...get some education before you go preaching to people.

Anyway, it depends on how fast your horse's hair grows and how long you consider a "natural length" but I roached one of my horse's manes and it took about 2 years to reach the bottom of his neck.  You've already got a head start on that so I'd say it would take a year.  Some TBs have slow growing hair so it might take a little more.

my tb x qh took about 6 months to grow her mane to about 4-5 inches after i roached it cuz it was all dead. i wanted new and healthy hair to grow in instead of a half orange mane on a bay horse.
