I am growing some potatoes.

The flowers have finished, and where the flowers were a fruit is growing, what is this fruit?

And how do I know when my potatoes are ready to eat.

  1. maybe it is seeds of potatoes sprouting

  2. They're called 'Potato Apples'.

Don't eat them, put them on the compost heap with the leaves and stems.

  3. If you planted them in April they should be ready now, just dig up a root of them to see. I planted some for my elderly parents in April and they are defffo ready, been eating them for the past week or so.

  4. They are seed pods,You can dig your potatoes up now if you want but,If you leave until the plant dies off they will be bigger,The choice is yours.

  5. I always wait until my potato plants start to turn brown and die back. It usually is a good indication that the plant is done doing what it does.  As far as the fruit, it is a potato apple..not edible however.

you can poke your fingers in the soil around the plants, and you should feel tubers there.

    Good luck!

  6. They are called Potato Apples if your plants are still in good shape and haven't started to fail I think I would leave them for a while. You can test dig a little around the plants to see how they are doing. If they are still a little on the small size leave them as long as the plants are good they will get bigger. If the plants are failing dig them up.
