Okay, so Ilive in Southern Illinois and most farmers markets have already sold their zucchini. I love to make this relish and was wondering if it is to late for me to grow a batch of it in a planter or something. Dont watn t plant a garden just thought I would get one of those big terra cotta pots and grow some. Any suggestions? Is it to late to try to grow some? I dont know the slightest about gardening. Thanks for your help.

  1. we live in the same area as you, not too late. but plant right away. should get zucchini by the first of Sept. skin may be a little thicker, don't spare the watering

  2. I think you may be able to do it if you get started asap.  I live in Minnesota near St. Paul and my zucchini have been producing for quite awhile now.  I started the seeds in a greenhouse May 1st and planted them outside on June 1st.  We had a very cold spring so things were late...So anyway, I would guess you need about 1 1/2 months to 2 months to get your plant producing.  Your frost must be much later than ours, so you should have time.  Zucchini can get HUGE, so you should plant it in a large pot and be sure to keep it always moist...Good luck!

  3. I think it maybe too late for it, unless you get pre-started plants.  Also a zucchini plant can get 4ft wide and about 3ft tall, so you may want to look into some other kind of container.
