  1. You allways get a lot more bloom than fruit with eggplant. How warm is it at night where you are? Eggplant will often not set fruit if night temps. are below 60 F or so. I have some african eggplant that are about 120 days and just now starting to set, my red eggplant about the same. Try pinching off the "weaker" looking blooms and just keep a couple of the large robust looking ones. These usally form in the leaf axil, crux of the leaf and main stem, have a long thick stem and form singly. They are usally much larger looking. These are the ones you want to keep as they have a better chance of fruiting. Avoid overhead watering, this can cause bud/bloom blast, Eggplant don't like water sitting on them and make sure they get at least 4 to 6 hours of full sun a day. Eggplant are a near tropical originally from the Indian subcontinent.

  2. try using some plant food and also change the soil if possible. Put it in a place where you get sun light for long hours.

  3. Uh not so sure about the male/female flower thing. Last time I checked the flower had both, but maybe I slept through that part...

Anyway, the flowers may be getting eaten? Insects may be the issue, or deer/rabbits/birds etc. will eat the fruit before it has a chance to do anything at all. What should be happening is the flower closes up and forms the fruit. Of course small at first, then it should grow.

Is it possible the flowers are not being pollinated?

I know there is some kind of bee virus killing a lot of bees, maybe that's it. I doubt they'll produce fruit if not fertilized.

The last thought is too many fruits so they don't grow well and get eaten early on.

  4. Depending on your location or the angle of your garden can seriously affect the growing period of your plants.  For instance, I live on a mountain side and no matter how hard I try peppers won't grow in my garden.  I get beautiful plants but no peppers.  Basically, the ground doesn't stay warm enough long enough to support the plant growth.  You could have the same problem with your eggplants.

  5. Eggplant will bloom all male flowers for about 2 to 3 weeks..then the female flowers come out..You may also be fertilizing them with something like all purpose miracle grow which is highly laced with nitrogen and is no good for blooming plants..they need phospherous and potassium...which you can get in miracles grow "bloom booster"...it drops the nitrogen low and increses the phospherous and pottasium..I have been picking off of my ichiban egg[plant..the oriental species for well over 5 months now...they are very [prolific...Here is a picture of the bloom booster...I use it faithfully, as well as some pictures of my garden.. nitrogen will give you all leaves and no fruit...the bklooms are either male flowers falling off like they should..or too much nitrogen and no phospherous..

Read under fertilizing here concerning nitrogen..
