  1. It is too late to grow them from seed, that should be done in early spring, but seedlings can be transplanted to about 8-12 inches apart now.  If you don't know anyone with seedlings to give you (you always get too many), you should be able to get them from a garden centre tha does vegetable plants, or try ebay.

  2. I sow leeks seeds in a seed tray in march, in a unheated greenhouse, put tray outside to harden plants in April,

when plants are about 4 to 5 inches transplant to growing position, take out of tray trim roots and tops of plants,

make deep hole with dibber pop 1 plant in hole and water in

don't back fill hole with soil.    When large enough use as needed,

should last all through the winter to early spring.

  3. Yes - generally from June onwards is the time in the UK for dibbing in leeks.  Make a big deep hole and drop each small plant in.  Don't fill the hole - just water it .  The deeper you make it (within reason!) the more white you will have on your leek.

I put mine in a fortnight ago.  My extdorr allotmenter put his in on Sunday.  You can expect them to be ready from late Autumn until mid Spring.

  4. i prefer sprouting leaks..!
