  1. Any kind of lettuce will grow well in a big container but a great suggestion is instead of another vegetable, put a flowing plant in there for added pleasure. and if you do  ot decide to do that , add some jalapeno peppers that flower and grow a bit taller than your lettuce and are pretty handing down once after the flower falls off.

  2. lettuce grows pretty big, are you sure you have enough room?  That must be a big container!  Let's see I hear potato's are easy to grow in containers, I have peppers in a pot and they are doing fine.  Maybe something that will grow out of the pot like cucumbers would work, if you place the containers near a fence they can just latch onto that and you will have a tasty cucumber and lettuce salad!  Rosemary doesn't really get too big, parsley would work well things like basil and cilantro get really big so I wouldn't recommend them.  good luck!

  3. nothing lettuce will damp thigs off

  4. I would suggest something that climbs so that it's not competing for ground space with the lettuce.  Peas, cucumbers, a flowering vine, you get the idea.  Just have a trellis or poles for the climbers to climb up behind the lettuce plants.
