Growing onions?

I planting a regular onion in a pot and much to my surprise it grew. Now it has a lot of stalks and one of them formed a bulb at the top. What do I do now?

  1. Why plant an onion, gets me. The onion is now of no culinary use, but the bulblets forming on the parent may be removed prior to frost, overwintered, dry, and planted next spring to grow on to maturity.


  2. The bulb on top means it is going to seed....so let it mature and then you'll have onion seeds for planting.
