My nail is ingrown. Its not too bad, I had a minor infection, but it's gone now. Anyway. I've put cotton under the nail lifting it away from the slightly inflamed skin. Once it grows out will my nail be fine? Will it come back? I've never had one before. Help!!!

  1. like others have said don't cut your nails to short or it will happen again .  it will grow normal.  just make sure from now on soak your feet occasionally and pull the skin down and away from the nail and it should be ok for future problems

  2. Dont cut it too short..soak it in water or put poroxcide on it.

  3. Once it grows out, yes, your nail will be fine. No one can say for sure if it will come back or not; some people have one, treat it, and never have another. Other people have one, treat it, and it does come back. Once it's grown out, ways to prevent another one include: wear shoes that fit; tight shoes that press on your toes can be a cause of ingrown nails. Don't cut your nails too short, and always cut them straight across rather than curved.

If you do get another ingrown nail, you can always go to the doctor and have them remove the ingrown portion and destroy that part of the nail matrix so it won't grow back (just that part, not the entire nail).

  4. cut a v shape in your nail. this encourages the nail to grow inwards to fill the gap, and not into the side of your toe.
