Growing out my hair?

Ok so I'm a male and I've had almost every hairstyle except the ones on the long side, because I never had the patience to get through that in between stage, where it looks kind of awkward. Recently I got a buzzcut, and I am looking to grow my hair out. The thing is, I dont have straight hair, and I am not even sure if it will grow down. I dont have curly hair, its thick, and kind of wavy. Will the long hair look funny?

No, it really shouldn't.

I've seen guys wearing long hair all the time.  I've seen curly, straight, frizzy, wavy...  For the most part, they all looked fine.

Your hair will definitely grow down.  Everyone's does.  If you're worried that your hair will stick out (because frizzies), you may want to consider a defrizzing serum.  You'd apply this only to your ends, and not your scalp!
