Growing saltbush in drought ravaged countryside. How drought resistant is it & how many farmers are growing it

I've heard about some farmers in south west NSW (in Australia) growing a plant called saltbush all over their land because it survives in drought conditions and is good feed for their sheep. Can anyone tell me more about saltbush? If you grow it, or know people who grow it, how do you find its use and how tough is it? Is it grown in countries other than Australia too?

Cheers :)
