What was your favorite novel growing up ?

What was your favorite picture book ?

When I was growing up,

My favorite novel was always "Robinson Crusoe"

Adventure always got me, especially when it was written like a journal,

to me that was so realistic.

As for a picture book,

mine was "Pickle and Patch",

it was about the adventures of a Pony and a Puppy.

Simple enough, Right ?

  1. i had different favorites at different times.  here's a few:

i should have stayed in bed

    Green eggs and Ham

    Horton hears a hoo

    Gulliver's travels (jonathan swift)

    C S Lewis's narnia series, particularly

the Voyage of the Dawn Treader

    The time traveler (hg wells)

lord of the rings trilogy (John Ronald Reginald Tolkien)

    the red badge of courage

    kidnapped

    i robot

    martian chronicles

    (anything by asimov/heinlein/bradbury/d**k/clarke)

for picture books, i remember a DC comic when i was a kid named 'Kamandi' ~a story about a boy growing up in a world gone mad.  at the outset it was fantastic, completely put together by Jack Kirby, but after about a dozen issues kirby started handing over more and more of the comic to other people to ink, letter, draw and around issue 25 finally to write.  what started as a story about a kid turned into a story about a super-hero, so i and millions of other fans lost interest.

  2. My favorite novel was and still is Time Machine by HG Wells.

My favorite book as a very young child was the Babar the Elephant books.  They did have some words, so they don't really qualify as just a picture book...but I was obsessed with the books.  Whoever was reading with me at night was also forced to listen to me count every single elephant decorating the inside covers of the books (lines of elephants holding the tail infront of them....about 30 elephants on both inside covers!)  Lol.

  3. Back then it was anything by Jack London or H.G. Wells or Mark Twain.

  4. Favorite Novel: Where the Red Fern Grows

Favorite Picture Book: The Velveteen Rabbit

  5. Wow, this is a hard question for me to answer because I was a very big reader when I was growing up, and I still am! I read through a lot of children's books very quickly, so by the age of 10 I was reading young adult books that my mum approved for me. Just like now, I always found authors I loved and read everything they had written, so rather than having favourite books I had favourite authors. So here are just some of the books and authors I loved:

Dianna Wynne Jones, I loved all of her books and still do! I own a pile of them and am now sharing them with my younger sisters and younger cousins.

The Hobbit and the Lord of the Rings Trilogy. I read the Hobbit when I was 8 and got so into it that I went straight on to read the Lord of the Rings. I really enjoyed it, but have also read it since then and got a lot more out of it.

Anything by Enid Blyton, I loved! I loved the Famous Five Series, the Secret Island, the Adventure Series, The Secret Seven Series and the Faraway Tree books.

I loved all of the mystery books, like Nancy Drew, Hardy Boys, and Three Investigators.

I loved all of the C.S.Lewis Narnia books. I had a big book with all of the stories in it so I read tham all and loved them.

I loved (and still love) John Marsden, and amazing Australian writer who wrote the Tomorrow series along with a pile of other fantastic books. My parents got me the first two books in the series when I was 12 and I became obsessed!

Well, this is by far not a complete list of the books I loved when I was a kid. I guess, I am still a kid (I'm 16) so the list would be even longer, but I just could not choose one favourite novel because I love every author for different reasons.

p.s. I loved Robinson Crusoe as well. I read it like a million times, but then got really sick of it! I should read it again though, I always enjoyed it.

p.p.s. Oh, my favourite picture book? Again, I couldn't choose just one! I loved all of the Little Golden Book, In particualr Sailor Dog and The Poky Little Puppy. We also had these two really big books, one filled with classic fairytales and one filled with Disney stories. The both had absolutely beautiful pictures in them which I loved as a kid and still love now!

Thanks for the great question. Sorry if I went of for a while, I love reading (as you may have guessed) and love sharing books to read with other people.

  6. When I was in elementary school. I loved those books you could pick your own ending.

During middle school, I read nothing but Christopher Pike series.

In high school, my favorite book was Tale of Two Cities..Tim Obrien's Things They Carried.. and Jack Frost

  7. My Favorite novel would be the Rowan of Rin Chronicles By Emily Rodda.

And as for the picture book it would be One Gorilla

  8. Probably The Hobbit.

  9. Black Like Me

    that dates me

  10. My favorite picture book was Dr. Seuss's, The Sneetches and a hard to find Dr. Seuss, Pale Green Pants With No one Inside. My favorite novel was Lad: A Dog, by Albert Payson Terhune, and Wolf, Son of Lad.
