Growing vegetables in an apartment?

I love having fresh herbs and vegetables, but I will be moving out of my house this autumn and living in an apartment for a couple years. What kind of things can I grow in my new limited space? Any growing tips?

  1. Try your best to utilize your windowsills and whatever patio space you may have. From my experience, basil and different kinds of peppers have been really easy to grow in small pots (since I'm assuming you won't have enough space to make a flower bed or veggie garden). I usually grow things from seed also because it's pretty cheap and I always know if the plant doesn't really work for me then I only lost about 25cents (if even that much) if it dies hehe

  2. Where do you live?  Do you have a deck?

  3. I got this project idea from my daughter's preschool...

    To start a little garden:

Get a plastic glove. Get 5 cotton balls a little damp and stick one in the tip of each finger of the glove.

You'll need seeds for the next part...I used Radish, Cucumber, and Lettuce.

Drop a couple seeds onto each cotton ball, and tape it in a window.

Within a week or two, they sprout. A week or two after that, they're ready to transfer!

I also live in an apartment, and I planted these in a large flower pot and have them sitting outside my living room window.
