  1. Ha, I had to laugh.  Growing up (1950s-1960s), my father worked full time and we had two cows and about 10 acres of garden.  Not only did we grow and preserve _every_ vegetable our family ate, we had a roadside stand selling vegetables and sold some wholesale.  It's how I made money by raising and selling tomatoes, corn, pumpkins, cabbage, and peppers.

  2. you can buy seeds for garden centres quite cheap.

All you have to do is water them regularly and check them for bugs.

I guess it does work out cheaper, i have a vegetable patch in my garden.

  3. try this link for how

  4. Yes it's possible. Yes it's a lot of work. If you have the space to freeze or can learn to can you can save big money. My brother is the big gardener in my family. Hr just told me the other day that while we were growing up and our mother used to make him weed the garden he swore he'd never have one. Now he's like an old farmer.

  5. I did it for many years with a 2-3 hour commute to boot.  The weekends or free days were used for watering, weeding, fertilizing, and general maintenance.I checked then every evening and if they were dry I would turn the sprinkler on while getting ready for work in the morning (0445-0530).

  6. growing your own vegetables is great

i a small veg patch and have grown lots more in tubs

find 1 weekend when you can dedicate your time and you will be well away

you need to prepare the ground, and once thats done, you are good to go

i have planted potatoes, beets, radish, onions, strawberries, carrots lettuce tomatoes etc, and a multitude of herbs, and all are being harvested now, i planted one third of my space and then 2-3 weeks later another third and then 2 weeks later the final third so they didnt all come at once, it sounds time consuming, its not, every evening i go out, have a look at what needs attention, pick some and water everything, takes about 15 minutes at most

its very rewarding, i urge you to give it a go, after the 1st weekend of preparation it takes very little maintainance

it really is very easy, and there is nothing lovlier than going out and picking your veggies for dinner

go on, give it  a go, seeds are REALLY cheap, and once you get started people will inevitably give you cuttings etc
