Bought this house, and there is a grungy greyish stain (covering most of the bottom, only) Tub is white enamel over iron type; installed around the 60's-70's. Stain appears to be just old accumulated grunge over the years. I've tried Comet, and even straight bleach to no avail. Any ideas? Thanks!

  1. Spray or heat some White Vinegar onto stained area then sprinkle some Baking Soda and scrub with a nylon type scrubber and allow to soak for several hours then scrub again when time has lapsed then rinse with hot water

Or use Muriatic Acid which is used in pools you can purchase this from a pool supply store, sponge onto stain and leave on for about twenty to twenty five minutes but no longer than that as this cleaner can etch some enamels and porcelains rinse with hot water and wear protective clothing and gloves, Caution: Caustic substance Good Luck !

  2. CLR...YOU CAN GET IT FROM STINES OR LOWES...ETC.......AND IT SHOULD REMOVE IT....IF NOT TRY FABULOSO...I SWEAR BY IT... : ]

  3. use a razor blade to scrape off the gunk

  4. If the stain is rust.

Go to walmart in laundry aisle with other cleaning supplies not laundry detergent there will be product called Super Iron Out.

It has several uses. I use this on stain white towel that had old rust stain. I pour directly on stain area let it soak for 5 minutes. After it was finish washing the stain was remove.

This should help remove the stains on the bath tub.

  5. muriatic acid might help, but you need to be careful...

it could also be because the glazing on the tub is damaged....I live in a 60 yr old house with it's original cast iron tub and kitchen sink....the tub has yellow stains on it where the glazing is thin, and the kitchen sink is even worse. nothing takes the stain completely out.  You may need to have the tub reglazed...

  6. Bar Keeper's Friend works well!  I,too, was in the same situation, and Comet wouldn't cut it.  My mother-n-law recommended this.  You can buy it at Wal-Mart, Food Lion, and Lowes.

If it's a rust issue, try Whinks.  It's hard to find, but well worth the look!

  7. try 5 denture tabs in tub of water let soak all nite.It works.
