Grumeti ruled out of the Betfair Hurdle
Grumeti has been ruled out from the Betfair Hurdle, which is scheduled to take place at Newbury in England on Saturday, February 9, 2013. He will now take part in the Kingwell Hurdle at Wincanton instead.
According to his trainer Alan King, “I have two entries in the Betfair Hurdle in Grumeti and Manyriverstocross. Although I am not certain, it is more likely that Grumeti will wait and head for the Kingwell Hurdle at Wincanton the following week.”
He went onto say, “Manyriverstocross has been off the course for 818 days and is ready to make a start. It is an extremely difficult race to make a comeback in but I have very few opportunities in which to start.”
With his absence in the Betfair Hurdle, Grumeti’s fans will have to wait even longer for his comeback. He was last seen in action back in May 2012. He was rated as the favourite to succeed in the event, but disappointed his fans at the end of the day, by
securing the runner up position.
Overall, the five-year-old gelding has got a very good record and his performances in races over hurdles have been really impressive. He has participated in 17 events, winning seven of them whereas secured the second place on a couple of times. In addition
to that, he ended up third on four occasions, which shows that he does not settle down for lower positions easily.
His form in hurdles has always been impressive, as he has mostly lived up to the expectations of his team in this format. There was only one occasion, where he failed to finish in the top three during a hurdle. However, that was quite a long time ago and
the seasoned runner will be looking to come out with positive intent in his future competitions.
Sakhee’s son will be a touch worried about his racing form though, as he has been out of action for quite some time. He might be a touch rusty and his opponents will be good enough to take advantage of that. Therefore, he will need to train hard and come
out with all guns blazing in the Kingwell Hurdle.
