Grumeti to restore his image in Saturday’s Trial
Grumeti, a novice horse trained by Alan King, will be looking to restore his lost image by winning the upcoming JCB Triumph Hurdle Trail race on Saturday, January 28 at Cheltenham. It will be a Grade 2 race over a 2 mile long track.
Grumeti will run against 13 opponents including Baby Mix, Countrywide Flame, Hinterland, Hollow Tree, Pearl Swan, Tango De Juilley, Brilliant Barca, Colebrooke, Sadler’s Risk, High Samana, Jackies Solitaire, Fulgora and Ninfea.
King wants his horse to recover from the disgraceful show he put up in the Berkshire Stand Bookshop Juvenile Hurdle by falling badly on January 18. He was running with a lead of 8 lengths when he fell and walked out of the contest.
During last week, the trainer administered various tough training techniques on the black gelding in a bid to prepare him for the weekend’s mega event. Now, he seems to be satisfied with the young runner’s preparations.
King said, “He runs on Saturday and schooled well this morning. I'm very happy with him. It's a race where some people are going to be pleased, and others are going to be disappointed."
Owned by McNeill Family, Grumeti started his career on August 31, 2010. In his 11 races so far, he has won just 3 including 2 Flat Turf and 1 Hurdle. The horse has earned £12,671 so far, with the top speed of 117.
Bred by Catridge Farm Stud Ltd, the four-year-old was whelped in March, 2008. He has been ridden by four jockeys so far named as Wayne Hutchinson, Jimmy Fortune, Hayley Turner and Jamie Spencer.
As per the expert opinion, winning the JCB Triumph Hurdle Trail is greatly significant for Grumeti’s career during the calendar year. If he loses, the bookies will not consider him as favourite throughout, 2012.
Though there are some tough and talented competitors in tomorrow’s event, but King hopes that his trainee will regain his lost form and make up for the embarrassing form last time around.
Grumeti is in good shape ready to take on rivals in his next race, and Alan King is on the same page, determined as ever.
