Grzegorz Proksa confident but will face bit problems against Gennady Golovkin – Boxing Special
Grzegorz Proksa, the EBU (European) middleweight champion, has finally reached the milestone moment of his career.
The Polish proud who has never been in a world title bout is close to witness his dream, of grabbing a world title, come to realisation.
Proksa will challenge Gennady Golovkin for his WBA world middleweight title in a 12-round bout which will be held on September 1, 2012.
The duo recently shared their thoughts about the bout and vowed (just like all other high-profile events) to defend their respective stakes. Proksa, 27, who will enter his career’s 30th bout, boasting 28 wins, was quite optimistic in fact resolved that he
will capitalise this opportunity to show the world what supreme talent he possesses.
Proksa stated, “I have no doubt in my mind that I have the ability to knock out Golovkin. My opportunity to showcase my talents to the world has arrived and I'm not going to let it slip away. This will be a difficult fight but I believe in myself to come
out victorious and I'm going to bring an aggressive game plan for the fans.”
On the other hand, the undefeated Kazakh pounder also predicted that Proksa will get shocked by his power as he has not fought any puncher like him. Golovkin commented, “Proksa has never been in the ring with a puncher like me and I'm here to show the world
what I'm made of.”
This will be the first time that the duo will enter the land of opportunities to show the American boxing fans their talent, capabilities and exciting brawling styles. It is this reason why the duo wants the HBO special pay-per-view ‘Boxing After Dark’ to
be a memorable and statement-making one.
Despite all the above verbal bashing, there are certain concrete aspects that pin point the fact that Proksa will face a substantial difficulty in nailing the world champion Gennady.
Golovkin, 30, has been in a total of 23 bouts, boasting an undefeated streak. The Kazakh proud has never lost even a single bout, nailing 20 of his opponents by knockout. The above stats show that Gennady is a perfectionist who tries his level best to finish
the bout in a dominating manner rather than leaving it to the judges.
Proksa, also known as ‘Super G’, is also a talented and tough belligerent who has pinned 21 of his total opponents by knockout. Despite being quite a decent opposition, Grzegorz faces some inherent deficiencies which might create difficulties for him during
the bout.
Proksa is short heighted, 2 inches shorter that Gennady. This will give Gennady a wider reach as compared to Proksa who will therefore find it a bit difficult in connecting a punch to the Kazakh’s chin.
Furthermore, Gennady has recently fought far better and more experienced men than those taken on by Proksa. Golovkin is coming off huge wins over pugilists like Makoto Fuchigami, Lajuan Simon, Kassim Ouma, Milton Nunez, and others.
Proksa has fought just two or three big names like Kerry Hope, Sebastian Sylvester, and Pablo Navascues. Therefore the calibre of the opponents will also play a pivotal role as Gennady has more refined experience than Proksa.
However, not every aspect is against Proksa. The Polish is a southpaw whereas Gennady follows an orthodox stance. If Proksa is able to connect one or two hard raw powered punches, the career’s first ever world title for the Super G is inevitable.
All Proksa need to do is penetrate Gennady’s strong defence and cover up the reach difference. The duo is scheduled to headline the special edition organised and promoted by Gary Shaw of Gary Shaw Productions and Art Pelullo of Banner Promotions. The show
will be televised live from Turning Stone Resort & Casino, Verona, New York, United States.
