This will be my first bike. I am looking for a bike that is not super heavy, and maneuverable. I am 5'7'' and weigh 132lbs, and yes, I'm a girl.I was set on the R6 but I'm getting a little worried about everybody saying that the bike only has power at high rpm's. I was also thinking about the gsx-r600 but some people have told me that the bike has too much power at the slightest touch of the accelerator. Any advice? Will most of the dealerships let me test ride the bikes.

  1. If you're set on starting on one of these bikes, go with the gsx-r600. It has a nice smooth power delivery compared to the RR and the R6. Not that you'll notice the difference... At this point, I say buy the one that feels the most comfortable to sit on.

No dealership is going to let a newb test drive an SS 600.

  2. The best advice i can give you is.....Please read forum choices before you post.

This is "Motorcycle Racing", You would get a better response in "Cars & Transportation"> "Motorcycles"

  3. No the dealerships usually wont let you test ride. You as a beginner would not be able to tell the difference between either as far as acceleration or throttle go, not because you are female, but because you are a beginner. Also I know you dont want to hear this, but I taught my ex to ride this past summer on my new GSXR1000......Luckily she only dropped it once and didnt get hurt.......In all honesty I shouldnt have taught her on that, its too much bike and a 600 is too much as well. But good luck on your goal to learn its an amazing feeling.

  4. The best answers so far is from Barry M .

Also, you say you had you had your eyes set on R6 but were told it has power at the top end ............... you are looking for CBR 600 ?

What bike you destroyed the W.S.S Championship ?

NONE of these bikes are good for first timers.

Also, you dont " drive " a motorbike.

    Try a smaller cc bike.

  5. Pick whichever bike you like best, all 600cc sport bike's hit the peak power at very high RPM's. As you are learning, doubtfully you'll be getting it up there. Go to the dealer, sit on each one and decide.I would go with CBR, because it has the best reviews and Honda's are solid. Do yourself a favor by purchasing a full leather riding suit, gloves, boots and helmet. Oh yeah, a good insurance plan is a must. Keep the rubber side down! BTW what does your husband say and why are you looking for strangers advice?

  6. how about the SV650??? that bike has alot of torque and is a kick inthe pants to ride...very smooth power delivery. the only part of the sermon...im sure your hubby has insisted anyway.....take the safety class... and enjoy
