Guaifenesin in equines?

hi if any one of u have any idea about The drug Guaifenesin / guaiphenesin, where its available and price let me know, I m doing my M.V.Sc research on this drug. its a muscle relaxant and i m using it in combination with Xylazine & Ketamine in equines for TOTAL INTRAVENOUS ANAESTHESIA. so please help me.

  1. this drug is used for humans.i think its useful in suppressing a stubborn cough(non-productive cough)

    you can find it in most cold/cough syrups.


  2. Guaifenesin is the active ingredient in mucinex and other mucus busters cough medine) in human medicine.  I don't think you can use it as a muscle relaxer.

  3. Guaifenesin is the the active ingredient in many over the counter expectorants like Humibid, Mucinex, and Robitussin plus many others. Usually in the form of a syrup or pill. Inthose forms it is widely available at any local pharmacy OTC.

    It is also supposed to have some neurological effects and an analgesic effect as well as working as a skeletal muscle relaxant. Hence its use in  fibromyalgia patients. Veterinarians have also used it for years to anesthetize horses prior to surgery. Seems in that form it would be a controled drug though?

    Why can't you get it the same place you're getting the Xylazine & Ketamine?
