Guanajuato or san miguel de allende?

which would be a better vacation spot for 3 days?

But both are so BEAUTIFUL!!

I have only been to Guanajuato, but have been drooling over the idea of someday doing a photo safari to San Miguel, as well.  I have seen photos from friends, and would kill to go there, one day.

Depends on the type of experience you want. Guanajuato is a more colonial Mexican town where you'll find many more "Mexican experiences". San Miguel is more touristy, where you'll find many more americans living there along with Mexicans. You can probably get more bargains in Guanajuato than in San Miguel.

If you are going because you want to learn more about Mexico & its' culture, then go to Guanajuato. If you are going to travel & don't care about culture, then visit San Miguel. Don't get me wrong, San Miguel is still a cultural city where you'll find many great things to do, but with so many americans there it's really almost a "home away from home" for americans. Guanajuato is primarily a Mexican city with a much smaller american population than San Miguel.

Guanajuato was a much bigger and important city during tha Spanish colony, it has alot of history and monuments , the architecture therefore is richer, and is the capital of the state with the same name

San Miguel is still in Guanajuato is a lovely town with colonial architecture not as rich as the capital and is a smaller city with an athmosphere that already catched the atention of many retired Americans who lives there.

both are good chices so in your 3 days trip you can spend time in both since they are not to far from each other.

Guanajuato is for knowledge and touring its history

San Miguel is for relaxing  and enjoy the time there.
