Guangzhou International Women's Open 2010: Jarmila Groth vs. Alla Kudryavtseva in Sunday's final
Jarmila Groth has successfully made her way into the final of the Landsky Lighting Guangzhou International Women's Open 2010 on the very first occasion in her career, after brushing aside Edina Gallovits in the semi-final on Saturday. The final match score
was 6-0, 6-1. The match concluded in a time of 38 minutes.
The first seeded Jarmila broke her serve on five occasions, taking nearly half of Edina’s serve for this lopsided victory - an almost mirror image of their last clash which Jarmila triumphed after losing just one game back then.
"I am the top seeded player here so the pressure was off course more than anyone else playing in the competition. However, I have been trying to perform at my level best so far in this tournament and I am glad that it is actually working the way I wanted
to. I am extremely happy to reach the final of the Guangzhou International Women's Open. I have had a superb week so far in Guangzhou and the overall experience has been simply wonderful. I am excited and really looking forward to play at my very best in the
title battle after successfully winning the semis as it was my second semi final run this season,” said Groth after her victory on Saturday.
Groth is currently ranked number 55 in the world and is likely to jump into the top 50 very soon this week which would be her career best rankings. She earlier made her way into the fourth round of the French Open and Wimbledon Championships.
While commenting on her expected rankings, Groth said, "It is really exciting to at last making it into the top fifty. I have had some health and injury issues in the past and every time I was close of climbing into the top fifty, I just couldn’t make it
in the end. It is my very first final here and I will definitely try to play as good as I possibly can to triumph so for now keep your fingers crossed as I can go higher than just the top fifty rankings.”
In other action, the world number 103, Alla Kudryavtseva got the better of Zhang Shuai, a tennis player from China in a total of two sets. The final match score was 6-0, 6-4.
Groth, who is looking to capture her first WTA Tour singles trophy, will meet Alla Kudryavtseva, an unseeded player in the title battle on Sunday.
