Guard Ben Grubbs likely to rejoin Baltimore Ravens on fresh deal-NFL News
Pat Dye, the agent of Baltimore Ravens’ guard, Ben Grubbs, remains hopeful of reaching a deal with the team in the near future.
He is more likely true to the hopes as the team too confirmed they were interested to retain the player in the longer run.
Either of the sides has not spoken anything about the prospective financial terms that the player might be able bargain for, but both of them confirmed the continuation of talks on the sidelines of the National Football League (NFL) Scouting Combine.
The Combine started in Indianapolis on February 22 and ended on February 28, 2012, providing with the teams an opportunity of working out the deal problems of their current players, while weighing the options of draft recruitments, at the same time.
Dye said that he had "very positive meeting" with the team management on behalf of his client and remains confident of negotiating a revised contract for the player.
He said:
"We'll see where it goes from here. We'll keep talking."
Grubbs is one amongst top few guards available on the free agency and the team said they were interested to bring him back.
Ravens’ head coach, John Harbaugh said:
“We’re in the process of negotiating. We’re committed, Steve Bisciotti’s committed, to offering him a really great number."
The guard becomes another Ravens to have been engaged in talks around the possibility of winning a fresh deal from them.
Some of other players that the team is seeking to retain included the running back, Ray Rice, and quarterback, Joe Flacco.
The players are currently negotiating their deals with the team, expecting a new contract in the near future. The team has already declared them to be in contentions for a longer stay.
Meanwhile, Ravens have already signed the guard, Marshal Yanda, on the five-year $32.5 million deal. He had been given the new contract in 2011 and will join the squad in the regular season this year into the second year at Baltimore.
With regard to discussion on Grubbs future, both sides confirmed continuation of it for another round, hoping to find a workable solution by then.
The player’s stay has assumed greater importance given that the team has also brought the offensive department under their focus.
Ravens have traditionally relied on the defence in most of their victories, but the failure in the American Football Conference (AFC) championship in 2011 season, made them give a second thought to it.
While they are looking to retain the quarterback, Joe Flacco, the team has brought in Jim Caldwell as the fulltime offensive coach, proving them to be serious about building a strong attack line.
Caldwell is credited to have trained and groomed the players like Indianapolis Colts quarterback, Peyton Manning, and now Ravens’ Flacco stands an opportunity to benefit from the coach’s expertise.
