Guardiola 3-6-1 formation – the new way to fit Cesc Fabregas into the first team? (Part 1)
The Catalan Giants won their first trophy of the season 2011/2012 against Real Madrid as both the teams competed for the Super Copa. Real Madrid looked to be the better as they dominated against Barcelona but still failed to win silverware.
Last season Josep Guardiola’s men dominated throughout the Spanish La Liga and in the UEFA Champions League as both the teams squared it off in three competitions. Real Madrid managed to win the Copa Del Rey only while Barcelona won the UEFA Champions League
and the Spanish La Liga.
Right before the start of the Spanish La Liga, the Copa Del Rey winners had to play against the La Liga winners in order to claim the Super Copa. The Spanish Giants won the two legged final 5-4 on aggregate with Lionel Messi managing to shine in both the
legs.
In total, Lionel Messi managed to score three goals in two legs and also assisted Andres Iniesta to score the first goal of the second leg.
The Argentinean star was the difference maker between Real Madrid and Barcelona. While Madrid were dominating at the Santiago Bernabeu, Lionel Messi helped Barcelona take the lead right before half time. The best player in the world repeated the story at
the Nou Camp as Real Madrid managed to make the score line 1-1 during the 20th minute, Lionel Messi scored right before half time to give his side a 2-1 lead.
The importance of the two legged fixture was not only how Barcelona were supposed to win against a tough looking Madrid side but also whether Cesc Fabregas has a place for himself in the Barcelona line-up. While most people thought that Fabregas is going
to replace Xavi Hernandez in the first team, Josep Guardiola proved that the former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429 captain can play alongside Xavi Hernandez and Andres Iniesta.
While http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pedro-c29582 Rodriguez was substituted for Cesc Fabregas, fans didn’t know what Josep Guardiola had in mind. The Catalan coach played a totally different formation and did not stick to his favourite 4-3-3.
While Andres Iniesta, Xavi Hernandez and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Sergio-Busquets-c33048 were forming a three man midfield, Guaridola decided to make it a four man midfield. Moreover, only one striker was played with Xavi Hernandez, Cesc Fabregas and Andres Iniesta, all featuring in the
midfield alongside http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Seydou-Keita-c33177 who replaced Sergio Busquets in the holding midfield position.
http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Daniel-c9879 Alves was made to move on the left for the first time. It was quite shocking how Josep Guardiola wanted the team to shape like.
The Catalan coach sacrificed most of his strikers except http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Barcelona-c38604. The Argentinean star striker usually plays in a “false nine” position where the centre forward falls back to aid the midfielders; however, all
of it changed as he stayed in front in order to help his side in scoring goals.
