Despite being in touching distance with Los Blancos, the Catalan coach believes Madrid are still in control of the Spanish La Liga points table.
Josep Guardiola has played down Barcelona’ title hopes this season and has admitted that Real Madrid are currently in phenomenal form and catching them in the league is going to be next to impossible.
Real Madrid have recently dropped 6 points in their last 5 matches, drawing 3 and winning 2 games in the process.
Los Blancos commanded a 10-point lead over Barcelona at one point in the league but Barcelona have managed to catch up on their arch rivals and are now only 4 points behind them.
However, despite being in touching distance with the Whites, Josep Guardiola said that he will not get carried away with the results that are coming to their advantage and believes Madrid are still the favourites to win the Spanish La Liga title.
While speaking to the press, Josep Guardiola said:

“It’s a lot more difficult now than when we were behind by 10 points.
“It appears as though we already have the title, but four points is a lot against this Madrid. There’s a lot of work to do.
“No team in the history of the league have fought back to overturn a 10-point lead against Madrid.”

“The three points against Madrid are by no means won. Madrid are coming and we’re aware that we can lose the three points.”
While Barcelona take on the challenge of Getafe during the midweek, the Catalans will have the chance to cut the gap to 1 point, if they manage to beat their rivals as Real Madrid take on Atletico Madrid on the next day.
