  1. Stay in Antigua at Casa Santa Domingo if you can afford it.  It is an old monastery turned into a Hotel.  All the hallways are candle lit and some if not all of the rooms have fire places.  It is a very special place.

If that isn't in your budget, there is a small Bed and Breakfast called Casa De Musica, which is very charming.

I have stayed at both and both are very nice.  Santo Domingo will have more of the hotel amenities.  Even if you don't stay at Santo Domingo, you should go and see it, they have a couple of museums and a church inside the grounds.

  2. I would go to this place if it were me doing the choosing!

Chiminos Island Lodge...it's an ecolodge deep in the Peten near Sayaxche. Privacy, romance, adventure...who could want more from a honeymoon?

  3. I spent my honey moon in Antigua Guatemala, Lake Atitlan and then a Northern town called  Coban, from the three place si tell you Antigua is beautiful because its history, also it is a city among volcanoes in a Valley... Lake Atitlan is so beautiful too. Very romantic, I was ib Hotel del Lago full of flowers and gardens. From the dinning room seams you are floating on the water. And Coban is so beautiful, green every where. I recomend ther Hotel La Posada. Have fun and happiness forever! Oh i see , yes Semuc champey is near Coban area so get there ti see the place!!!

  4. check the Guatemala office site for tourism

    www.visitguatemala.com

  5. you should visit Tikal because of the beautiful pyramids and they show you how the mayas played futbol " soccer". it is a great place to visit.

  6. One place that is really nice is Rio Dulce, Izabal. It even has an old castle called Castillo de San Felipe. To this small castle you can take a boat or go by land. It is an ideal place since you can rent a nice hut with all the amenities by the riverside and it is a nice view, especially a sunset.

  7. My husband always tells me of a place he'd go as a kid way up in the mountains and watch the sunrise. It sounds so romantic! This is in the Aguacatan, Huehuetenango area. There are many beautiful, breath-taking views there. If you are not from Guatemala, I think it's kind of neat that few would understand you and it would almost be like having a small part of the world to yourself! That's a wonderful destination if you ask me, but there are some safety issues you must deal with, like the driving. Since it's a honeymoon anyways, why not let the bus drivers drive you and hang on to each other for dear life! I recommend going to some of the small villages, and not just the tourist areas. Have a great honeymoon wherever you plan it!

    Additional information:

There is a lot of information on the American Embassy web site for visitors to Central America. You should take the time to read it if you go. It is a lot of reading, but information from documents to mosquito protection and sunblock is on there. Very well worth your time!

  8. Guatemala is good place to get a honey moon  u could visit Antigua Guatemala is a romantic place , Coban , Quetzaltengo ( Xela, is too well is a lot of places u can go to honey moon and if your in love any places are cool and nice

  9. Antigua is a very romantic place.  As for a hotel, I would recommend Meson Panza Verde over Casa Santo Domingo.  CSD is nice and all, but it is too big for my tastes. Panza Verde only has about 9 rooms and is incredibly nice inside, with an excellent restaurant as well.

A great side trip would be up to Lake Atitlan, and stay at Case del Mundo, which is right on the shore of the lake, and very quiet and romantic as well.  Incredibly nice lake and you can swim in it if you don't stay in Panajachel (water is too dirty near Pana).

Another nice trip would be to Semuc Champey, which is a place that is hard to describe accurately, so you should google image it.  Its natural pools formed over an underground river, incredibly beautiful.  The rather rustic hostel in nearby Lanquin, El Retiro, is really nice and has little private cabins for like $14 a night.

Tikal is a must-see as well, you can stay in the park or on the island of Flores, which is also a neat place.

I highly recommend making Antigua your home base, as all travel can be facilitated from there, and it is so nice as well.

  10. I vote for Antigua as well.  You've gotten alot of good advice.  I can't add to it except, plan on RELAXING.  Antigua is a place of a much slower pace.  Enjoy the scenery and the food.  It's a GREAT honeymoon spot!
