Guatemala hosts the second leg of 2012 NORCECA Circuit – Volleyball news
The second stop of the 2012 NORCECA Beach Volleyball Circuit is scheduled to get the green light on Friday, March 30 in Guatemala.
A total of 29 beach volleyball duos are set to clash for the top positions in respective men’s and women’s competitions.
In the men’s division, sixteen duos will contest their skills on the centre court. On the other hand, 13 women’s tandems are also ready to rumble on the sandy courts of Guatemala. The Campo Marte Airport in Guatemala received the participating teams on Wednesday,
while the general technical meeting of the team officials took place on Thursday.
The meeting was presided over by the President of the Guatemalan National Volleyball Federation Enrique Santis. He welcomed the participants and also thanked the NORCECA Confederation for creating this unique opportunity for Guatemala to host this event.
President of NORCECA´s Beach Volleyball Commission and Director of the event, Arnaldo Sánchez, also attended the meeting of Organising Committee on Thursday.
He stated, “I am pleased to be in Guatemala, the stop has its own mystic bringing the beach to the city and a lot of public comes to Campo Marte, especially now that Guatemala’s teams are qualified to the final stage of the Olympic Qualifier they need the
support of their people.”
The NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tournament is one of the most popular annual sport events in the Guatemala and scores of volleyball lovers come to watch the cracking beach volleyball matches. This is the consecutive sixth year that Guatemala is playing host
to the NORCECA Beach Volleyball Tournament. The technical director of Guatemalan Volleyball Federation Arnaldo Sanchez is optimistic that all the matches of this tournament will receive good number of fans.
In the previous edition of the Guatemalan Beach Volleyball Tournament, Mexican pairing of Aldo Miramontes and Juan Virgen finished as the top team in men’s final and secured the gold medal.
Likewise, the title trophy of women’s competition was claimed by Heather Bansley and Elizabeth Maloney of Canada. However, both these pairs are not taking part in the 2012 edition of the tournament. So it is a great opportunity for other teams to seize the
top honour.
