Guatemala stuns USA at the Ocean Spray Wata XX Pan Am Junior Team Championships – Badminton news
Guatemala’s shuttlers proved their worth in the team event match by beating USA’s team with the margin of 3-2, at the Ocean Spray Wata XX Pan Am Junior Team Championships in the National Indoor Sports centre in Kingston, Jamaica, on Tuesday, July 26.
The match started with the Mixed Doubles category, where USA’s Danae Long and Jeffrey Kuo proved their skills beating Jonathan Solis and Natalia Flores of Guatemala. Both sides put up a good show by playing top-class badminton, as they kept the pace quite
high.
The thrilling fight of three-sets ended in the favour of the American shuttlers, as they worked really hard and finished-off the 35-minute Mixed Doubles battle with the score of 19-21, 21-14 and 21-16.
The following fight of this team event match was in the Women’s Singles category, where Christine Chen of USA was taking on Guatemala Nikte Sotomayor. The American shuttler performed really well in the opening set of the match, where she remained in good
control and won the set by the margin of 21-17.
Stung by the loss of the opening game, the Guatemala shuttler bounced back and clinched the second and third set by playing wonderful badminton. Christine failed to continue her positive run and lost both the remaining sets with a 17-21 and 12-21 margin.
This 45-minute fight ended with a score of 21-17, 17-21 and 12-21.
In the fight of Men’s Singles, Jeffrey Kuo failed to secure a point for his team as he lost the battle against Guatemala’s Heymard Humblers. The Guatemala shuttler proved his worth by playing at his best and spared no chance for his challenger to fight back
in the match. Jeffrey put up good fight in the opening game but gave up in the second set and lost the battle in 30 minutes with the score of 19-21 and 12-21.
In the next fight of Women’s Doubles, Claudia Hardi and Samantha Li of USA thrashed Guatemala’s Natalia Flores and Nikte Sotomayor in just 25 minutes, with a 21-6 and 21-16 score on the board.
In the Men’s Doubles fight, Michael Buasan and Brandon Chi of USA failed to perform well and lost to Heymard Humblers and Jonathan Solis of Guatemala, in straight-sets with a 16-21 and 15-21 margin. The match lasted for 20 minutes.
