I am a temporary resident in Guatemala and I am about to start working very soon. I will be making about Q3,500 every month and have been told that the taxes I will owe on that to Guatemala will be about Q1,000 to Q1,500 every month. The I still have to pay US taxes on top of that. So my question is, will Guatemala care if I pay the taxes or not? If I am supposed to, but dont, what will Guatemala do?

  1. There are two types of taxes in Guatemala, the IRS, and the IVA, with the IRS because you are foreigner you can take this way of payment, you have to pay a 10 % over your income this is monthly, this is not more than  Q.350.00, And the enterprise where you are working  must to retain that and pay it directly to the SAT, In the case of IVA you actually are paying it in every shopping that you do.

  2. I would check with the U.S. Embassy (Citizen Services) to see if they have any insight on this issue.
