I'm going to antigua to learn spanish for 3 weeks this summer. I'm looking into buying a Guatemala travel guide but can't decide between Lonely Planet, Fodor's or Frommer's. Can anyone provide any insight on these books or else give additional travel tips? Thanks!

  1. Try wikitravel.org.

  2. frommers is the old school book, famous for many years....but lonely planet is the best IMHO.

some like the rough guides, but i think that lonely planet gives so much better (and clear and orderly) information about the country.  you are definately trying to be more like the locals and experience what they do with lonely planet.

fodors gives you much info....but it is not the "back pack" or "get your hands dirty" choice.  besides i think that fodors is not one for a person who likes to travel "low" in other words, as if you were on a budget (or if you really are).

go for the lonely planet...the maps are easier to read too.
