Guess what? Peyton Manning or no Peyton Manning – NFL Feature
All the developments around the recovery of Indianapolis Colts’ quarterback, Peyton Manning, since his neck surgery in September 2011, have proved that nothing is conclusive and final about his return to either game of the American professional football
or to Colts.
Not a single day goes by without contradictory and controversial reports on the matter of his injury. For example, all the stakeholders have been told by the media throughout the entire past season that the player had three surgeries on the right side of
his neck, and all of sudden a report has claimed that as a matter of fact he had four procedures.
Now all the debate has turned to focus his chances of recovery and return to play football again in the future.
The player is hopeful and has spoken of his hopes of a comeback. So is his former boss, Colts fired vice chairman, Bill Polian, who believes the QB will be able to play at a high level again.
His former coach, Jim Caldwell, too has expressed similar views on the player’s football future.
Moreover, his doctor has allowed him to intensify his workout and gave him all cleared to be able to play football again.
The doc at the same time has warned his team to be patient with him as in spite of his recovery, the nerve regeneration in his throwing arm can take some time, and there is no timeline when the player will be fit and regained his old strength in his biceps
and throwing arm.
This provides enough grounds to his employer, Colts’ owner, Jim Irsay, to doubt and question his return from the injury and be able to play football in the longer run.
In fact, Irsay has already done so, when he said that in spite of all the talk around his fitness the player has not passed the team’s physicals. He apparently warned him to be aware of it and pass it before declaring himself to be available.
The owner’s assertion might have come in the perspective of lingering question around the payment of $28 million bonus to Peyton Manning from his team, which is due by March 08, 2012.
The payment is must to activate his deal for another four years, unless he renegotiates it with Colts and possibly agrees to an extension in it.
There is no confirmation that Colts will surely make the payment to him before the deadline to prevent him hitting free market on expiring the date.
All the developments at the Indianapolis of so far indicate that Irsay is not willing to pay him the bonus amid the lingering doubts of his ability to play football again.
As all those who have spoken of their optimism of Peyton’s return to the professional league are people who like him. For example, they are his family members, his former managers, his former coaches and his fans.
All those are not independent analysts of the game. As far as those independent analysts and commentators are concerned, they are in as much a fix to predict the player’s future, as is the team’s management.
They too are as much helpless to know if there is going to be Peyton Manning playing football again with or without Colts as fans of the player.
Almost all the sides are relying on their guesswork that: Will there be Peyton Manning on the field again?, and their answer is: Who knows.
