  2. Try the police department or a firefighter.

  3. My cousin is a kindergarten/preschool teacher in ATL and she had her b/f come in who is a professional chef and taught the children how to make tacos- it was very fun for the kids because they actually got to be a part of it (obviously all the ingredients were already precooked- like the meat and all) she had little paper bowls out on the tables with cheese, lettuce, and tomatoes- so the kids could fix their own and they had a real fun day- maybe a little messy but where she teaches which is not the best neighborhood those kids deserve some kind of fun in their lives, so the mess is worth it. You could also contact the fire dpt. and policemen to come to your school to talk to them- a lot of young children look up to police and fire men, so that would be good. Any positive role models, would be great. Good Luck and have fun!

  4. a doctor?

  5. police- Halloween safety or bicycle safety, seat belt, helmets

Call your local high school and have some choral students come in - I usually invite the high school's quartet for Q day.  Our recycling lady is great with the kids -she will do crafts out of recycled products and plays games.  Firefighters will bring their fire trucks and we have a smoke house that simulates a fire in the house and we practice getting out safely.  Our Extension office has a nutritionist who comes in and talks to the children about eating a variety of healthy foods and makes fruit dip with us.  EMS can come on teddy bear day and you can have the teddy bears be patients.  We even had a big truck day and invited a cement truck, semi, garbage truck and tractor - those men were SO good to the kids. It was heartwarming.  We have a mom in town who takes her kids to Kindermusik and she has every instrument there is.  She dances and sings. Our local dance instructor comes to visit once a month and does Fun and Fitness with us.  Gosh, the list is never ending!

  6. call a local Zoo and they might have resources for you. sometimes they bring in animals to the classroom!

you can also call the police and fire departments to ask them about visiting your school.

    Good Luck!

  7. The children are excited with almost any one who is interested in telling them what they do. Start with the parents. Write a note asking them if they would like to present a talk on what their job is about or maybe they have a special talent that they could share with the children. There are so many options in the community.

  8. You could have the local high school marching/concert band come in and perform.  When I was in elementary school, that was one of the reasons I joined the band, seeing the older kids doing it.  Maybe if you want to condense it, have their jazz band or a little sectional perform.  Love the library idea, by the way.
