Guidance counselor help?

Ok, so my school consists of 8 period and a lunch as one of them. So, I decided to take what they call 0 hour P.E. because I needed to add to a class to my schedule. So, this is my junior year and I'm taking a total of 5 AP classes and two honors courses. This also includes 0 hour P.E. lunch which allows me to have gym really in the morning (like about 6.45 am). My problem is that I have 7th period lunch. I find this lunch period difficult because of my reasons.

1. I have no time for breakfast bc of 0 hour P.E. and I usually try to catch up on hw in the morning after gym.

2. It's going to be really hard to concentrate hungry through all these vigorous courses and wait till almost the end of the day until lunch.

3. I'm going to be involved in after school activities which requires me to stay after school. Thus cutting on my homework time, so I think an earllier lunch period would allow me to finish some homework.

Here's my question. What can I say to my counselor so that I can change my lunch period to an earlier period? I already found that its possible bc I investigated from other students and learned that I can rearrange my schedule so that I can keep all my classes but still have an earlier lunch period. I really need an earlier lunch period bc I don't want to have to think of how hungry I am and get distracted from my class. What can I say to my counselor? Should I get my mom involved?

  1. It probably won't happen without administrator approval and even if you go to them it might not happen. In order to change your lunch, you'd have to change your whole schedule around and with student numbers as high as they are, you might not be able to get the classes you want/need.

Why don't you just make the time to eat? You really could do both -- eat and study.

  2. Tell them what you posted here; explain the conflicts, and explain that you understand the importance of having breakfast and lunch. This shows that you are responsible and take care of yourself, and your guidance counselor will like to see that.

  3. You have a fantastic case here.

Your counselor should hear you out.

If you try and they aren't listening... involve your mom. Try it first on your own, though. It will make you feel great if you make your case and they agree and take care of it without having to involve your mom. :)

Remember... the counselors are there for YOU.

  4. Tell her that you are feeling very hungry in your classes and you are having trouble concentrating and you are worried about your grades. You feel that you would do better if you could move your lunch up a period or two.

  5. I think you explained yourself quit well and the counselor should grant your request.  If they don't then for sure I would get my parent involved.  You can run on no fuel!

  6. You have logical reasons for a lunch period change. Just tel you counselor what you have written here and it will probably be granted.

If that does not work ask your parent to come to school./
