Question:

Guidance for a newbie tarot card reading?

It's only my 2nd or 3rd time to do a card reading for myself, so I'd like some guidance from experienced mentors. If you have some time, could you please look over my interpretations of the cards?

Since I'm a newbie, I used the relatively simple 5-card spread which was included in the LWB of my Robin Wood Tarot Deck (which were also the cards I used). It said the the 5-card spread was "devised to provide the seeker with a specific answer to the specific question."

My question was: What should I do so I can finish the translation job given to me (preferrably by tomorrow)?

A very simple question, and the answer seemed obvious to me right away. I was expecting the cards to tell me "just get off your lazy butt and start working right away!" But the the cards told me something different, to my surprise. Here are the results with my interpretations.

Pos. 1 : The question itself : THE WHEEL OF FORTUNE

I thought of how lucky I was to get the translation job, since it was from the company where I resigned just a few months ago. I currently don't have a regular job (I'm not looking for one at the moment) but the extra income from doing translations was a big help. However, I also feel anguish about the job (this occured to me as I was looking at the faces in the wheel showing a range of emotions from anguish to happiness).

Pos. 2 : The background leading up to the question : THE SUN (REVERSED)

I feel as though my energy to do the translations is blocked. I've been trying for weeks to get it done, but to no avail. I also feel unsure about myself doing the work. The translation job involved a lot of complicated technical terms and concepts that can only be understood by a professional in that field. Most of the time, I just use my best guess or what I feel to be the best word to fit the situation. I was fearful that I would not make a successful translation.

Pos. 3 : The Seeker : ACE OF CUPS

I find this card a bit more difficult to interpret, since it was about me and I initially associated cups with emotion (which I could not connnect with the question at hand). Nevertheless, I knew it was a positive card. In Joanne Bunning's book, it suggests that the Ace of Cups also meant intuition, so I thought this meant that I had the intuition to do the translation, that I could use my instincts when translating the complicated terms. The overflowing cup seemed to tell me that I was full of potential. The heart on the cup reminded me that I did not want to let down my co-worker who entrusted me the job.

Pos. 4 : The Environment (influence of others) : KNIGHT OF CUPS

I dwelt on this card longest, since I wasn't exactly sure what the card was trying to tell me, then I decided that the Knight might represent the one who gave me the translation job. (Interestingly, he is a man). I felt that he may have some unrealistic expectations about me and my ability to do the job.

Pos. 5 : Answer to the Problem : THE HIGH PRIESTESS

I almost gasped when I turned over this card. I felt that the High Priestess reinforced the message of the Ace of Cups to trust in my intuition and instinct in my translations. The reason I was not able to do the job was because I did not trust myself in translating the complicated words and concepts. She seems to assure me that I have the potential to do what I need to do, and that I can develop my skill.

What do you think? I'm welcome to any insights and suggestions, and even comments telling me that my reading is wrong! As I am very new to all this, I appreciate any guidance.

Thank you for looking!

P.S. There are a total of 3 Major Arcana cards out of 5 - does this mean anything?

  1. You should quit being concerned with the "absolute right translation."   You are allowing the concern about keeping face with the company to keep you from finishing and so lets you fester with both lack of commitment and worry about disappointing someone.  The Knight is like a flirt, so if you have trouble motivating yourself, think of the translation as a game.  Like in flirting, you don't have a lot to lose.  Your dedication to the project is lacking.  What to do?  You are clearly very competent.  Make getting it done a kind of game, and believe that your best shot at translation will at least let the coworker see what you can do.  It's even possible that this man wants a basic go at the translation, since it might be too much work for him right now.  I'll email you a better kind of reading that breaks down the cards and the relation.

  2. Stop wasting so much time on this sheer nonsense (or as I call it, Total Absolute ROT) and do the translation already!

  3. Tarot is a tool that helps you connect to the Divine.  It reveals what you already know—even if unconsciously.  As it sheds its’ light on your situation, you become conscious of what you already knew.  You did a great job on your interpretation.  What I will add is some aspects of the cards for you to keep in mind—sift and winnow—take what makes sense and leave the rest.

The Wheel of Fortune is the cyclical structure of Fate. The conclusion of a situation is found in its beginning. Each beginning leads to an ending, and that ending is both the results of one beginning and the start of another.   The universe opens up to you, because you are ready to learn all its wisdom. The first hurdle has been passed and greater lessons lie ahead. The appearance of the Wheel of Fortune shows that change is not only likely to happen, and soon. Generally the change shown in the Wheel of Fortune is a dramatic change from the established order. If you have been scraping along for a while, expect changes in your favor within a few days. (In order words, you have been struggling with the translation. You will shift from struggling with the translation to translating with ease.)

The Sun brings light and clarity to darkness and confusion. The Sun is a symbol of steadfastness and reliability, for no matter how bleak your situation may seem, no matter how many problems you have, Sun is akin to the completion of the tasks and trials of the night, and the warmth it provides is the reward for not cowering in fear at the darkness, not running away given the chance, and not trying to hide from the wisdom that is rightfully yours. One of the most predominant meanings of the Sun is that of success and completion. It is the best of all possible outcomes to any situation. Success comes if you are confident and bold in the use of your creative energy. Such power and clarity are within your grasp, if you let the light of the Sun illuminate you. Fogs of confusion are burned away with the Sun. A seemingly hopeless situation will be hopeless no more once the Sun shines down upon the path to solution. (Don’t be intimidated by the translation—you will do just fine.)

The Ace of Cups appears when emotion and intuition run high. Not only does it indicate intuition, it also shows the first step down a path of enlightenment and understanding. This is a period where the Inner Voice will actively manifest in your life. Now is your time to pursue ambitions—your cup runneth over. (Yes, you are full of potential—and as you pour yourself into the translation, the cup is continuously refilled—you will never lack in your intuitive powers and potential.)

The Knight of Cups is in touch with his intuition and emotions, and he uses them for his own good during his quests. In a reading he can manifest as an event, a person in your life, or as a part of yourself. The Knight of Cups implies that of a messenger. He can also represent wisdom that comes from within to help you surmount obstacles. His passion is reaching his goals. (He is your co-worker and YOU. Both will reach your goal—you will finish the translation—your co-worker will not be disappointed.)

The High Priestess speaks directly to your Inner Voice; your unconscious mind. She is the base of potential that is the source of power. She is the unlimited potential that allows us to transform and create whatever we desire. The High Priestess is a guide to those willing to venture deep within their minds to discover the true powers hidden deep inside. Her appearance is often a sign that your own intuition is trying to send you the message: that everything you need to know already exists within you. (Need I say more?)

Wow! Your whole reading is about your ability to complete the task! Major power plays into the situation when the Major Arcana dominates a reading—and, even more confirming is that the other two cards support and reinforce what the Major Arcana has revealed.

  4. Hello

As I am often saying to those who post layouts for interpretation within forum below - Your Interpretation is the Most Important. You may find that a simple question would benefit from a single card or 3.
