Guido Pella gets rid of Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo in semi final – Ciudad de Guayaquil Challenger 2011
Argentinean qualifier Guido Pella and world number 479 got the best of fourth seeded Espanola Ruben Ramirez Hidalgo in the semi final of the Ciudad de Guayaquil Challenger 2011.
On Friday the 25th of November 2011, at the Guayaquil Tennis Club in Guayaquil, Ecuador both the competitors took up the racquets on clay courts. After simply one hour and six minutes the Argentinean qualifier stunned the Espanola by overpowering
him in straight sets of 6-4, 6-1.
Both the sets of the match were bagged by Pella but in the second round of the match he had a clear lopsided victory. Commencing the primary round of the match was Hidalgo as he had won the service toss and he bagged his respective game to spin scoreboard
to 1-0. Trailing behind him was Pella and he too easily bagged his service game to place himself beside his adversary at 1-1 on the scoreboard.
The players matched an eye for an eye and neither of the players wanted to throw in the Rallying the remaining games from there onwards the score advanced levelling at two games each, three games each and for the last time at four games each by the end of
the eighth game.
During the last two games, Pella capitalized on a breakpoint in the ninth game and then held his serve in the tenth by smashing a marvellous backhand winner down the T.
The second round of the match was inaugurated by initiated by Hidalgo but both the players double faulted on their respective serves and after trading in breaks the two had managed to place themselves on the scoreboard at 1-1.
In the third game Pella pressurised Hidalgo into double faulting on his second serve. In doing so; the Argentinean qualifier with a hold of serve in the next game, squared two games and took the lead for the first time in the set.
The Argentinean qualifier repeated the feat of breaking and then holding to reel off another two games and he was now only a game away from victory. As hidalgo’s forehand shot went long, he erred on his serve and endorsed a pivotal game to his adversary.
As Pella capitalized on the final break he sealed the set with a bread stick victory and also the match.
In doing so; Pella reserved a spot in the final of the event where he will be facing Italian Matteo Viola in the final clash of the trophy.
