Guidolin not happy with the performance despite winning against Rennes: UEFA Europa League update
Udinese manager, Francesco Guidolin, has urged his players to improve their game despite winning against Rennes.
The Bianconeri beat the French side 2-1 in their opening group stage game of UEFA Europa League at Stadio Friuli Udine on Thursday, September, 15th, 2011. The hosts trailed early in the game when http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Youssouf-Hadji-c37599 provided
Rennes with a lead. Skipper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Pablo-Armero-c28946 scored the winner seven minutes from time.
Guidolin is satisfied with the result but believes that his team must improve themselves and stop making childish errors. The tactician added that the new boys must adapt quickly to the conditions and the team knows where they
need to improve.
Talking to the reporters Guidolin said, “The result is satisfying, but there is much work to do. This is a new Udinese side with new players, with youngsters whom it is hard to communicate with. We know what problems we have to
overcome.”
After getting knocked out of the UEFA Champions League preliminary round against http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Arsenal-c38429, Guidolin wants his team to perform well in the Europa League.
The former Palermo manager has refused to set unrealistic targets for the ongoing season and confirmed that his team’s main aim is to stay in the Serie A. The 55-year-old has reminded his players that they are in the toughest group
and cannot afford silly mistakes.
“Our first aim is to avoid relegation. We must improve to do that because we are committing a lot of silly errors. As for the Europa League, we’re in a tough group seeing as we’ll also face Atletico Madrid and Celtic. We’ll just
try to do our best in all three competitions that we are in.”
Udinese finished fourth in the league last season but they have lost three of their most influential players during the summer transfer window. http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cristian-c9491 Zapata and Gokhan Inler have all moved to new clubs.
The Italian side will take on Fiorentina in their next league at home on September, 18th, 2011.
