  1. Buy Guild Wars or Guild Wars: Prophecies.

Older packaging is just Guild Wars, nothing else.

Newest edition has Guild Wars: Prophecies, just a name change, same as the old one.

Everything else Guild Wars are essentially expansions,  though "Fractions" and "Nightfall" are called standalone games, it just means they contain single-player campaigns, but they only have 2 classes each, which makes them very gimped compared to the basic Guild Wars or Guild Wars: Prophecies that give you 6 classes to play with.

Great game, hope you enjoy it, no monthly fees either, just the cost of the game.

  2. Ok guild wars is real fun you need Guild wars Factions, Prophesies or Nightfall to play it The eye of the north is an expansion you can only get to lvl 20 but its a fun game factions is best And you can go to Guild wars official site just go to google and tipe in guild wars

  3. There are three main 'chapters' in Guild Wars, each a stand-alone game (though they can link together if you buy all three).  Guild Wars (the original game, also called 'Prophecies') is the first chapter and its story line is referred to in the other chapters.  It also has the best (in my opinion) low level tutorial area to learn the game in.  Prophecies has a fairly standard European/Fantasy look common to many role playing type games.

The 2nd chapter is Factions, and it has an oriental setting and adds two additional character classes to the 'core' six.  Factions also has a very good tutorial section and if the asian-look setting is important to you would also make a good choice.

The third chapter is Nightfall, with an African/Middle-East looking setting.  It adds two more character classes.  It also adds 'heroes', which is a very good addition to the game but adds a much higher level of complexity to the play and I do not recommend it for first-time players.

Eye-of-the-North is an expansion module that works with any or all of the three main chapters.  It is not a stand-alone game.

Other versions you are seeing are things like the Platinum Edition, which I believe combines Prophecies with Eye of the North in one package.  Make sure you check which chapters of the game are included in any of these special packaging deals.

Go to the Guild Wars web site for complete information:  http://www.guildwars.com/

Also look at http://guildwars.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Pag... for additional information....guild-wiki is a great resource for all things Guild Wars.
