Guilherme Clezar butchers Andre Miele in the first round - Sao Leopoldo Challenger 2011
In an all-round Brazilian contest, Guilherme Clezar butchered Andre Miele, in the first round of the Sao Leopoldo Challenger tournament, hosted in Brazil, on Tuesday November 1st. It took just an hour to hammer Miele
in straight sets with a score of 6-2, 6-0.
These two had already met each other earlier this year and it was a really close contest and went to third set where it was decided on a tie-breaker but this game was totally one-side encounter. Clezar was in supreme form having
won all his previous five meetings while his opponent had lost two of the last five.
Ample crowd turned in numbers to witness two of their locals’ battle it out for the berth in the second round. It was a complete one man show and totally dominated by the 18-year-old teenager, Clezar, who flabbergasted everyone
with his classy shots and command on every aspect.
World No.354, Clezar, commenced the match in a dashing fashion and won first four games by breaking his opponent’s serve twice in succession. It was extremely fascinating to watch the youngster pout such a startling show in front
of his people. Audience was rocked with his extraordinary shot making capabilities and outstanding grip on his serves.
Finally 24-year-old, Miele held his serve in the fifth game and broke in the sixth to put a respectable score on the board. The third break in the very next game for the teenager who clinched the set with an incredible 62% total
points win rate.
First set featured 55 points in total and Miele only managed to secure just 21 points. He could only convert 29% of his first serves in his favour. That shows his inability to have control over his game. It required an immense
improvement in his technique and strategy to tackle the teenager’s aggression.
Second set was complete disaster for World No. 429, Miele. He was totally outplayed in all departments and couldn’t win a single game throughout the set. He faced an all-round onslaught from the teenager who was not ready to give
him any opportunity to secure anything.
Miele seemed completely unaware about tennis techniques and was hammered in all parts of the court. He was made to run from one corner to another on every point while his opponent was standing still and manoeuvring the ball at
will. All games in the second set were won by the teenager who comfortably placed himself in the second round with this commanding triumph.
Guilherme Clezar doubled his head-to-head tally against his opponent and sent a strong message to his second round competitor Leonardo Mayer. Fourth seed Argentine, Mayer, would have to bring the best of his performances to keep
his chances alive for the challenger title triumph.
