Guillaume Rufin wrecks Vasile-Alexandru Ghilea qualifying rounds – BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy 2012
Seeded at number four in the qualifiers, Guillaume Rufin of France registered an explosive victory over the unseeded 18-year-old local opponent, Vasile-Alexandru Ghilea, in the second round of the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy. The
contest was played on the outdoor clay courts of Bucharest, Romania, with the Frenchman winning in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0, to move into the qualifying competition of the tournament.
157th ranked Rufin was absolutely ruthless to the Romanian teenager in the matchup, sparing merely one game for him in the entire contest. He wrapped up the proceedings in barely 63 minutes, dominating every second of
play to stamp his authority over the game. Rufin belted 61 per cent of his first serve on target and dropped just three points on it. He pocketed 19 out of 22 first serve points and backed it up with his exceptional return game, winning 20 out of 36 points
on Ghilea’s serve.
The 18-year-old had two break chances in the match but it was the sheer brilliance of the fourth seed French which denied him from converting any of the opportunities in the match. On the other hand, Rufin crafted a total of 13
break points in the contest and converted five of them to dispose of the Romanian youngster in a comprehensive manner.
Ghilea held his serve only in his opening game and the rest was an all-French show to witness. Rufin broke his opponent in every single game to follow, rocketing through the sets with the utmost ease and bagging victory in an authoritative
fashion.
Rufin will play against the unseeded Italian opponent, Alessio di Mauro, to qualify for the main rounds of the BRD Nastase Tiriac Trophy. Mauro was successful against Ilija Bozoljac Serbia in the second round qualies.
The third seed Estonian, Jurgen Zopp, also won his second round clash to reach the qualifying competition. He overwhelmed the Romanian wildcard entrant, Razvan Sabau, in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3, to carry on his voyage at Bucharest.
The second seed German, Daniel Brands also made it through to the final round qualies, whereas the top seeded Slovakian, Martin Klizan, fell to Attila Balazs of Hungary in the second round Sunday.
