Everybody seems to think this guy is so hot, but I just think he's over-rated. Pan's Lab was . . . hmmmmm . . . alright, but everything else I've ever seen of his was complete dreck.

(And yes, I'm aware that I've probably spelt his name incorrectly, but to be honest . . . I couldn't care less.)

  1. You and my daughter are in agreement, she can't stand him, says he relies on violence and she's right, his stuff is pretty violent.  Hellboy 2 actually had a lot of the same "fantasy" costumes etc that were in Pan's labyrinth.  Almost identical!

h**l, he's had a lot of money thrown at him, for sure.  Why do they keep financing M. Knight Shayhalan, he's had one good movie out of 8, right?

  2. No , Gus Van Sant and M Night Shymalan are the most overrated and most overhyped idiots in movies.

Hellboy 2 and Pans Lab are quality. Del Toro and Jackson are the new Spielberg and Lucas.

  3. No, he isn't overrated.  I've seen Blade 2, Hellboy and Pan's Labyrinth.  A good director for sure and very creative.

  4. I think he is mis-appreciated

  5. Brilliant director, Fresh and excellent visuals.

his earlier films like the devils backbone and cronos are better than his hollywood stuff, didnt like hellboy and wont be watching hellboy2. pans labyrinth was good but felt it lacked a satisfying ending. Also his producer credits have good films like The orphanage, best film ive seen in a long time.

  6. Yes, terribly over-rated. He's great with the visuals and has some innovative creature designs but his stories are pretty poor, as are his scripts. His films also lack a decent, tangible atmosphere.

I'm dreading to see how much of a mess he makes out of the two Hobbit films that he is set to direct soon.

  7. I completely agree with you.

He's not a bad film maker, but he's certainly not as good as everyone thinks.

His visuals are fantastic, but he really struggles when it comes to story telling (this is really evident in Hellboy 2, which I thought was bordering on dreadful).

Pan's Labyrinth is a decent film, but I didn't think it was anything special. I probably need to see it again.

  8. I've only seen Hellboy 1,2 and Pan's Labirynth.

I liked Hellboy, but i didn't consider it the masterpiece that some has talked.

"Pan's" is magnific instead. i absolutely love it.

i'm waiting Guilielmo for "the hobbit". We will see there what he's really worth.

  9. I didn't care for "Blade II" but I didn't like any of the Blade movies. The rest of Del Toro's film's that I've seen I like, especially "Cronos." The Hellboy movies owe something, I think, to the Magic Realism movement of Mexican Literature, but they are also brilliant realizations of Mike Mignola's off-the-wall Dark Horse comics character; I like the first Hellboy movie and I love the second one. The upcoming "Hobbit" film and the adaption of H.P. Lovecraft's "In the Mountains of Madness" should secure Del Toro's future in Hollywood. I think he's a unique film maker and I'm looking forward to seeing his career unfold.

  10. Pans Labyrinth was 5 out of 5

I think he is very good.

    Give him a break
