Guillermo Garcia-Lopez cripples Dustin Brown to reach the second round – Rai Open 2012
Second seed, Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, devastated the German contender, Dustin Brown with a breadstick at the Rai Open 2012 on Tuesday. He jolted down a 6-3, 6-1 victory against the German to power into the second round at this ATP (Association of Tennis Professionals)
Challenger Tour event held in Rome, Italy.
Garcia-Lopez took down the world number 151 in straight sets through his impressive skills and abilities. After pocketing this battle in 58 minutes, the Spanish veteran convincingly advanced into the round of 16.
The 28-year-old assertively stepped on the red clay courts and drew the first blood in the third game to jump to a 3-1 lead. He capitalised on another break chance in the seventh game and extended his lead to 5-2. Despite losing his serve in the very next
game, Garcia-Lopez broke his opponent’s serve in the last game and bagged the opener by winning six games to three.
The high flying Spaniard went out of control in the following set and wiped out the opening five games in a row before Brown could hold on. He then plucked his serve again and pulled out the set with a breadstick.
All in all, La Roda native showed brilliant tennis throughout the match. He manipulated a better first serve share of 67 per cent as compared to Brown’s 48 per cent and amazingly availed 23 out of 33 points on it.
Next in line for the second seed is the Czech contender, Jan Hajek, who earned a 31- retirement victory against Portugal’s Pedro Sousa in 11 minutes to occupy this spot. Hajek drew the first blood early in the set and then held his serve to take a 3-1 lead
before his opponent was forced to retire from the event.
France’s Florent Serra also stole the show later that day after upsetting the eighth seed, Thomas Schoorel, with a breadstick. He got the better of the Dutch challenger in 69 minutes after cashing in all four break opportunities. Serra also dusted away two
out of four breakpoints he faced and fired six aces to dominate. The French produced a lower first serve share but marked 28 out of 37 points on it.
