Guillermo Garcia-Lopez proceeds to third round at the 2011 Monte Carlo Masters
Spanish tennis player Guillermo Garcia-Lopez scored an easy win at the 2011 ATP World Tour Masters 1000 Monte Carlo, defeating his second round opponent Vincent Millot in straight sets 6-2, 6-4. The match lasted a little over one
hour and seventeen minutes, before Garcia-Lopez stunned Millot entirely to conclude the battle.
Guillermo Garcia-Lopez is currently ranked World Number 27. The player has been part of the Association of Tennis Professionals since 2002, and has spent over eight years on the pro tour. Over the course of his career, he has won
a total of two ATP career titles. He lifted his first trophy on the clay courts of Kitzbuhel in 2009, and his second trophy came last year at Bangkok on hard courts. He also managed to make it to the final of the Eastborne event in 2010. The player’s highest
ranking so far was earlier this year, when he was World Number 23.
Vincent Millot, on the other hand, is ranked well outside the World’s Top 100 at Number 159. The player is 25 years old, and could not gain direct entry into the Monte Carlo Masters. However, he managed to clear the qualifying
rounds of the tournament to make it to the main draw of the prestigious event as a qualifier. He has only played one match prior to this tournament. The player’s highest ranking during the course of his career was World Number 147, which he reached earlier
this season. He has not won any ATP career titles so far.
The match was not a difficult one for Guillermo Garcia-Lopez, who is a more qualified and more experienced player than Vincent Millot. He did not score any aces during the meeting, although his French opponent managed one. This
did not have any effect on the outcome of the match, as Millot also committed three double faults to two by Garcia-Lopez. The match proceeded with Garcia-Lopez taking 65 per cent of his first serve points, while Millot only managed to win 52 per cent. The
Spanish 27-year-old pro also managed to drive Millot to break point opportunities eleven times, successfully converting those opportunities six times. Garcia-Lopez himself was broken two times out of a total of seven. The match ended with Guillermo Garcia-Lopez
winning 64 out of 110 points in the match, to take 58 per cent of the total points. He won eighteen points more than his opponent, Vincent Millot. It was a successful attempt for Millot, who has only played in three matches during the course of his career.
Guillermo Garcia-Lopez will compete against thirteenth seed Richard Gasquet in the next round at Monte Carlo.
